Disney Movie Box Office Opening Weekend

LOS ANGELES, CA – Disney‘s highly anticipated reboot opened to disappointing numbers on Friday, earning $14.3 million and projected to reach only $35 million to $37 million over its opening weekend. Though the film is expected to win the weekend, these figures fall short of initial forecasts.

The Friday gross includes $4.8 million from early access screenings on Wednesday and Thursday. Prior to its release, estimates suggested a weekend opening between $40 million and $50 million against a hefty production budget of $180 million.

This reboot marks the third film in the franchise, arriving 15 years after the original, which debuted at $44 million. Directed by Joachim Rønning, it features notable performances from Ares, who plays the central character, alongside Eve Kim and Julian Dillinger.

Despite the film’s disappointing box office performance, audience reactions are more favorable. It currently holds a critics’ score of 57% on Rotten Tomatoes, while audience scores have climbed to 86%.

Another film making its debut is Miramax and Paramount‘s romantic crime comedy, which grossed $3.3 million on Friday. It was directed by Derek Cianfrance and stars LaKeith Stanfield, Juno Temple, and Peter Dinklage. It is expected to earn around $8 million over the weekend.

Meanwhile, another new release, “Soul of Fire,” gathered $1.3 million on Friday and is projected for a $3 million total. The film, produced for $3 million, resonates well in heartland regions.

Box office updates will continue through Sunday morning, with further information and adjustments to be provided.
