Giorgia Meloni Italy Ceasefire Agreement

ROME, Italy – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni praised the recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which was brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump, marking a significant step in ending the two-year conflict in the Gaza Strip. Meloni called the news “extraordinary,” as it paves the way for a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and a planned withdrawal of Israeli forces.

In comments made on October 9, 2025, she expressed gratitude to Trump and the mediating countries, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, for their roles in reaching the agreement. Meloni stated that Italy would continue to support efforts aimed at stabilizing and reconstructing Gaza. “Italy is ready to contribute to the future of Gaza,” she affirmed.

Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini echoed Meloni’s sentiments, calling the day “beautiful and extraordinary,” stating, “After so many talks and promises, one can see the light at the end of the tunnel.” He emphasized the importance of not only the ceasefire but the return of hostages, whether deceased or alive, to their families.

Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani highlighted Italy’s experience in reconstruction efforts, expressing that Italian companies could assist in rebuilding Gaza. He also mentioned Italy’s willingness to welcome more Palestinian patients for treatment and to offer educational opportunities for Palestinian students.

Meloni and her government’s remarks come as Italy engages in diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region, reflecting growing support for peace initiatives following years of violence.
