Ambassador Victoria Nuland Joins SIPA as Faculty Member and Director of International and Global Affairs Program
Ambassador Victoria Nuland, a distinguished US diplomat with over three decades of experience, is set to take on new roles at the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Columbia University.
Effective July 1, Nuland will serve as the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Professor in the Practice of International Diplomacy at SIPA.
Additionally, she will lead SIPA’s International and Global Affairs Program, providing a platform for graduate students to delve into international issues.
As a member of the faculty, Nuland will contribute to SIPA’s mission of fostering global awareness and understanding.
Before her new academic role, Nuland held positions at the Albright Stonebridge Group, Brookings Institution, Yale University, and the National Endowment for Democracy.
This transition marks a significant step in Nuland’s esteemed career, showcasing her versatility in both academic and diplomatic spheres.
Dean Merit E. Janow expressed his enthusiasm for Nuland joining SIPA, highlighting her bipartisan background and wealth of experience that will enrich the school’s academic environment.
Nuland’s departure from the State Department was acknowledged by Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, further solidifying her reputation as a respected figure in international relations.
In previous administrations, Nuland served as Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs under Hillary Clinton and as Spokesperson for Madeleine Albright during the Obama era.
Her tenure as US ambassador to NATO during George W. Bush‘s presidency underscores her extensive diplomatic career.
Fluent in Russian and French, Nuland’s academic background includes a BA from Brown University, further enhancing her qualifications for her new role at SIPA.
