Los Angeles, CA — Angela Bassett made a stunning appearance on Sunday night, October 26, at Vogue World: Hollywood, where she reprised her iconic role as Queen Ramonda from the Black Panther franchise. The event, hosted at Paramount Pictures Studios, showcased a blend of film, fashion, and cultural heritage.

Bassett, 67, graced the runway in a breathtaking gown designed by Ruth E. Carter, the same outfit her character wore to a United Nations meeting in Geneva in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The gown’s vibrant purple hue symbolizes royalty and was complemented by a halter silhouette with a sculptural gold collar.

Intricate Wakandan hieroglyphs, woven in gold threads, adorned the dress, while Bassett wore Ramonda’s 3-D printed crown along with an isicholo, a traditional Zulu hat. Carter collaborated with artist Julia Koerner to create the headpiece, enhancing the Afrofuturism theme that characterizes Carter’s work.

This year’s Vogue World, marking its fourth edition, featured performances by acclaimed artists such as Doja Cat and Gracie Abrams. The event focuses on the rich relationship between film and fashion, with all ticket proceeds benefiting the Entertainment Community Fund, aimed at supporting professionals affected by the Los Angeles wildfires.

Carter, the first Black costume designer to win an Academy Award, reiterated her commitment to portraying African heritage through her designs. She has won Oscars for both Black Panther and its sequel, solidifying her place in film history. Bassett’s performance as Ramonda, which earned her accolades including the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2023, added a layer of significance to the event.

As she walked the runway, Bassett embodied the spirit of Wakanda, captivating the audience with her elegance and powerful presence.
