Apple’s Forgotten Devices Set for Major Upgrades in 2025

CUPERTINO, Calif. — While Apple‘s flagship iPhones, iPads, and Macs often dominate headlines, the tech giant is reportedly preparing significant upgrades for several lesser-known devices in 2025. These updates could breathe new life into products like the iPhone SE, Apple Watch SE, AirTag, HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K, and the Pro Display XDR.

The iPhone SE 4, expected to launch in March 2025, is rumored to feature a modern design resembling the iPhone 14 or 15, along with Face ID, USB-C, and a 48MP rear camera. Priced under $500, it could appeal to budget-conscious consumers looking to upgrade from older iPhones or mid-range Android devices. “It will likely be the first SE model to offer both a modern design and premium internals,” said a source familiar with the plans.

Meanwhile, the Apple Watch SE 3, anticipated for a September release, may ditch its aluminum chassis for a colorful plastic design, potentially lowering its price to $249. The updated model is expected to include a faster S-series chipset, making it more competitive against affordable fitness trackers.

Apple’s AirTag, released in 2021, is also due for an upgrade. The next-generation tracker is rumored to feature an improved ultra-wideband chip for better precision and enhanced privacy measures to prevent misuse. “Given the nature of the product, it’s a welcome upgrade,” said an industry analyst.

The HomePod mini, which turns five this year, could see its first major update with the HomePod mini 2. Expected to launch in the fall, the new model may include a faster processor, Wi-Fi 6E support, and an enhanced UWB chip for improved Handoff functionality. It could also play a larger role in Apple’s HomeKit ecosystem as the company expands its smart home offerings.

Additionally, the Apple TV 4K is rumored to receive its first upgrade in three years, potentially adopting Apple’s own networking chip and a faster A-series processor. The device may also expand its smart home capabilities, positioning itself as more than just a streaming box.

Finally, Apple’s Pro Display XDR and Studio Display, launched in 2019 and 2022 respectively, are overdue for updates. The Pro Display XDR could gain features like ProMotion (120Hz) and spatial audio speakers, while the Studio Display may switch to mini-LED technology and improve its bundled webcam.

These updates come as Apple continues to refine its ecosystem, offering affordable entry points for new customers and enhanced functionality for existing users.
