Arlington Schools Snow Early Dismissal

ARLINGTON, Va. – Arlington Public Schools (APS) will dismiss students two hours early on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in response to a Winter Storm Warning issued for the area.

The decision comes after forecasts predict 4 to 8 inches of snow from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning. In an official announcement made on Monday evening, APS stated that all extracurricular activities, field trips, and adult education classes would be canceled for the day.

“Due to the Winter Storm Watch in effect and potentially hazardous conditions expected for tomorrow afternoon, all APS schools will close early,” the notification read. “The Extended Day Program will close at the same time as schools close.”

On Tuesday, snow accumulation is expected to begin mainly after 1 p.m., with temperatures reaching a high of about 34 degrees Fahrenheit. Arlington County officials anticipate a 90% chance of precipitation, with projections indicating an additional 2 to 4 inches of snow possible overnight.

The Winter Storm Warning advises residents to prepare for challenging travel conditions as the snowfall intensifies. “In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity,” emphasized APS in a notable quote from Albert Einstein.

Furthermore, a scheduled Work Session for the Advisory Council on Teaching and Learning at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday has been canceled, though a Committee of the Whole meeting regarding the FY26 Budget will still take place at 6 p.m.

For those involved, custodial and maintenance staff are expected to continue their usual duties unless otherwise directed by supervisors. Staff members are urged to keep updated with potential changes in operations through APS’ online resources about school programs and activities.

APS is asking families to check their website at www.apsva.us/aquatics for any updates regarding pool operations and school happenings amidst the impending storm.

As the situation develops, locals are encouraged to practice caution and stay informed about weather updates.
