Ashanti Shares Joyful Journey into Motherhood on Tamron Hall Show

NEW YORK, NY — Singer Ashanti opened up about her pregnancy journey and the arrival of her son, Kareem, during an appearance on ‘The Tamron Hall Show.’ At 43, Ashanti shared her experience of becoming a mother and her decision to freeze her eggs before conceiving.

During the show, Ashanti discussed her proactive approach to motherhood, saying, “I was like, ‘Just in case, I could have these in the stash.'” This decision stemmed from her belief in manifestation, as she had long expressed her desire for marriage and children.

Reflecting on her past relationship with rapper Nelly, Ashanti revealed, “I just kept saying, ‘Send me my person, whoever it’s supposed to be just send them.’ And he sent him!” Her heartfelt sentiment resonated with fans, many of whom took to social media to express their support.

In addition to sharing her pregnancy experiences, Ashanti also detailed moments leading up to Kareem’s birth on Angie Martinez’s ‘In Real Life’ podcast. She expressed that the second her son was born, her protective instincts immediately kicked in. 

“He’s my best friend, the sweetest angel baby,” Ashanti said. “He always cracks me up and puts a huge smile on my face.”

Earlier reports indicate that Ashanti has discussed expanding her family. In a recent interview, she revealed that she feels “incredibly pleased” with her life following the birth of her son. When asked about having a second child, she answered, “Absolutely. We’re going to add some more. Definitely a girl to balance it out.”

Ashanti reflected on her rekindled romance with Nelly, noting, “We were together for 11 years off and on. We stopped, we hated each other for a good chunk of time. And then we spun the block. It just feels like timing is everything.”

The couple’s journey together has come full circle after initially confirming their romance in September 2023. In June 2024, Ashanti and Nelly married, and in August, she announced the birth of their son, Kareem Kenkaide Hayes, born on July 18.

Despite the ups and downs, Ashanti remains optimistic and grateful for the changes in her life. “My cup is full,” she stated, highlighting her happiness in her newfound role as a mother and partner.
