Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Takes a Swipe at Rahul Gandhi, Calls Congress’ Politics ‘Soft Naxalite’
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken a fresh swipe at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in reference to his remark that the former president of the grand old party will be “required” during elections. Sarma wrote on Twitter, ‘We need Rahul Gandhi during elections, brother.’ His tweet was in response to Karnataka Cabinet Minister Priyank Kharge, who dared Sarma to arrest Rahul Gandhi before the Lok Sabha elections.
Continuing the political mudslinging, Sarma alleged that Congress politics have become ‘soft naxalite’. Reminiscing about the time when he was part of Congress, the Assam CM said, ‘Their slogans don’t reflect Gandhian principles anymore. I too was in Congress for 22 years, but it never had such slogans earlier. Congress had a soft slogan. I see that they have killed even the soul of Congress. The entire carcade was full of so-called Left-leaning people.’
As Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered West Bengal‘s Cooch Behar, tensions escalated during the Congress leaders’ time in Assam, resulting in an FIR being filed against Rahul Gandhi, Priyank Kharge, and Kanhaiya Kumar. Barbs have been flying between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Rahul Gandhi ever since.
Launching fresh attacks on Rahul Gandhi, Sarma said that the Congress leader wanted to destabilize Assam during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. He also stated that they would arrest Rahul Gandhi after the Lok Sabha elections. ‘We will arrest him after the election. If we arrest him before, it will become politicized. Now the case has been registered, SIT will investigate, and we have evidence. A big incident could have happened in Assam after he instigated to break barricades. We don’t want to do politics before the Lok Sabha election because we are going to win this election,’ Sarma said.
