India Bank Holidays 2024

On September 16, 2024, banks in various regions of India observe closures to mark the celebration of Eid-e-Milad. Public and private sector banks are closed in several states, including Gujarat, Mizoram, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand.

In Maharashtra, banks have scheduled their closure for Eid-e-Milad on September 18, 2024, to accommodate celebrations. The shift in the holiday date came after Muslim community leaders decided to avoid a clash with the Anant Chaturdashi or Ganesh Visarjan events happening in the same week.

Despite these closures, banks continue to offer online services. Customers can access banking services through online banking websites and mobile apps, ensuring minimal disruption. ATMs remain accessible for cash withdrawals across the country.

Additionally, banks in the state of Sikkim will not operate on September 17, in observance of the Indra Jatra festival. In Kerala, September 18 is also a holiday, marking Sree Narayana Guru Jayanti.

Bank holidays in India often vary according to state-specific observances. Customers are advised to verify holidays with their respective local bank branches or through app notifications. Throughout September 2024, banks across India will have holidays totaling 14 days, factoring in religious, regional festivals, and weekends.

The following dates are notable for bank closures: September 17 for Indra Jatra in Sikkim, September 18 for Eid-e-Milad nationally, and Sree Narayana Guru Jayanti in Kerala. Further closures include September 21 for Shree Narayana Guru Samadhi in Kerala, and the regular second and fourth Saturday and Sunday closures nationwide.
