Barclays Executives Contribute to COVID-19 Fund
Top executives at Barclays are stepping up to help fight the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic by donating a third of their salaries for the next six months.
Among those leading the charge are Chief Executive Jes Staley, Chair Nigel Higgins, and Group Finance Director Tushar Morzaria. Their contributions are part of a broader initiative to support a £100 million aid package aimed at helping those hit hardest by the pandemic.
The bank has committed to matching these executive donations in full, which will significantly boost the fund’s capacity. This initiative is part of Barclays’ COVID-19 Community Aid Package, which targets charities that provide support to struggling businesses and households.
Barclays is initially putting £50 million into this effort, focusing primarily on the UK but also extending help to markets abroad, including the US and India. Additionally, the bank has set aside another £50 million to match donations made by its employees to charities of their choice, as long as those charities are providing assistance related to COVID-19.
Through these collective efforts, Barclays hopes to raise as much as £150 million for nonprofits working to combat the effects of the pandemic.
Jes Staley stated, “We want to do more to back the communities in which we live and work, and to provide help to those who have been hardest hit by the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.”
