Bears Suffer Close Defeat to Texans in High-Pressure Game
HOUSTON – On Sunday night, the Chicago Bears faced the Houston Texans in a challenging game, ultimately suffering a 19-13 defeat. This marks the second consecutive game where the Bears have fallen behind by double digits, though they were unable to replicate last week’s comeback victory against the Titans.
The Texans secured an early advantage with a touchdown and two field goals in their opening three drives, establishing a 13-3 lead. The Bears managed to reduce the gap to 13-10, thanks to Khalil Herbert‘s 2-yard touchdown run shortly before halftime. However, the team could not maintain their momentum.
“We’re disappointed by the loss,” Bears coach Matt Eberflus stated. “In the NFL, it’s crucial how you respond. We need to review the footage and address the areas that require improvement to convert these efforts into a win.”
The Bears’ defense limited the Texans to just one touchdown and four field goals by kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn, who made impressive long-distance kicks from 56, 47, 59, and 53 yards. In the second half, the defensive unit allowed only one field goal, forcing five punts and retrieving one turnover.
Despite these defensive achievements, the Bears’ offense struggled, managing only a single field goal in the second half. The game drew to a close with the Bears unable to capitalize on their final possession.
Chicago’s quarterback Caleb Williams completed 23 of 37 passes for 174 yards but was fraught with pressure, resulting in two interceptions and seven sacks. Williams expressed his frustration, focusing on the turnovers and missed opportunities for executing plays.
The Bears, with an offense struggling to balance their plays, only gathered 27 rushing yards from their running backs. Williams, who led the team in rushing, highlighted the necessity of establishing a stronger running game to support the passing plays.
The visiting team consisted of standout performances from Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, who completed 23 of 36 passes for 260 yards, including a touchdown pass to Nico Collins. Houston’s efficient execution reflected in its early control of the scoreboard and Stroud’s precise passing game.
