CU-Bloomsburg Hosts Wild Earth Day Celebration to Inspire Environmental Awareness

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — CU-Bloomsburg University is gearing up for its annual Earth Day celebration, titled “Wild about Earth Day,” scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 2025. The event will take place on the university’s academic quad from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., offering a day of engaging activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and appreciation for Earth’s diverse ecosystems.
Attendees can look forward to a variety of offerings, including games, food, live music, and educational demonstrations. The event’s theme emphasizes wildlife conservation, reflected in its organization into several zones centered around Earth’s biomes. Each section will represent different habitats, with mascots highlighting the gorilla for the tropical rainforest, the octopus for freshwater and saltwater ecosystems, the tortoise for desert settings, and the polar bear for the arctic tundra.
“Our focus this year is on fostering a deeper understanding of the biomes that make up our planet and how vital they are to our survival and well-being,” said Tim Pelton, Civic Engagement Coordinator. “We hope that through fun activities, we can inspire attendees to nurture their connection with nature and become stewards of the environment.”
In addition to interactive tables showcasing Earth’s biomes, visitors can expect to enjoy free meals, including themed foods such as arctic Italian ice. Exhibitors from local businesses and community organizations will offer informative displays and interactive activities, while some live animals are expected to appear, enhancing learning and engagement.
Special “Wild about Earth Day” T-shirts will be on sale, with proceeds supporting the campus’s Green Campus Initiative and its ongoing sustainability efforts. For more information about the event, individuals can contact the Office of Civic Engagement at CU-Bloomsburg.
In addition to CU-Bloomsburg’s event, residents can also participate in Wild Earth Fest on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the Watchung Reservation in Mountainside. This annual festival, organized by the Union County Board of County Commissioners, promises a wealth of educational activities, including a petting zoo, live animal exhibits, and hands-on crafts designed for families and individuals of all ages.
“We aim to raise awareness about environmental conservation within our community and beyond,” said Union County Commissioner Chairwoman Lourdes M. Leon. “With engaging activities and access to live animals, we hope to inspire a love for nature that will lead to environmental stewardship.”
Admission to Wild Earth Fest is set at $5 per person for attendees seven years and older, while free admission is granted for younger children. This year, visitors can engage in new attractions, including a dinosaur-themed experience, further solidifying the event’s appeal to young explorers. Various educational and recreational activities will be available throughout the day, making it a family-friendly gathering centered on wildlife conservation and environmentally-friendly practices.
As Earth Day approaches, CU-Bloomsburg’s and Wild Earth Fest offer unique opportunities for individuals to connect with the environment, learn about conservation efforts, and become proactive participants in protecting our planet.
