California’s Steve Hilton Eyes Governor’s Race in 2026
SAN DIEGO, Calif. — In 2026, Californians will elect a new governor, taking the reins from Gavin Newsom. ABC 10News has been interviewing several candidates in the race, including Republican Steve Hilton.
Hilton, who is a businessman, Fox News contributor, and former advisor to British Prime Minister David Cameron, became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2021. During the interview, he shared his thoughts about his chances in a state that traditionally leans Democratic.
“Everyone can see we need change in California. We’ve had 15 years of one-party rule, and the results are a complete disaster,” Hilton said. “We have the highest poverty rate in America, the highest unemployment rate in America, the worst business climate, millions of people leaving our state… Why would anyone leave such a beautiful state as ours? It’s because it’s just so impossible to live here.”
Hilton believes that voters are ready for a shift. “We can’t go on like this. When people ask me, ‘How do you win as a Republican?’ my answer is, ‘How can a Democrat win with their record?’ They want another four years of this disaster? No way,” he asserted.
In our conversation, Hilton discussed various aspects of his campaign, including his commitment to working with former President Trump if elected, his plans to tackle homelessness and the rising cost of living, as well as addressing the sewage crisis affecting the border and Tijuana.
The gubernatorial primary is scheduled for June 2026, and Hilton is determined to make a significant impact in the race. Keep an eye on this campaign as it evolves.
