Calvert County Students Shine at FBLA State Conference in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, Md. — Students from Calvert County Public Schools demonstrated exemplary business acumen at the Maryland Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference, which took place February 6-8 at Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor.
The conference featured competitors from Northern Middle School, Northern High School, and Huntingtown High School, many of whom secured spots at the FBLA National Leadership Conference scheduled for this summer in Anaheim, California.
One notable highlight was the recognition of Northern High School’s lead FBLA advisor, Nancy Tassa-Wilt, who received the Maryland FBLA Advisor of the Year award. Tassa-Wilt was honored for her unwavering commitment to business education and her dedication to fostering student achievement.
Among the outstanding accomplishments, Gentry Bowie from Northern High School made history by becoming the first Calvert County student in over a decade to win first place in the Future Business Leader event. This highly competitive category required participants to complete a rigorous written exam, submit a professional resume and cover letter, and successfully navigate a demanding interview process. As a result of this accolade, Bowie was also named to Maryland’s Who’s Who in FBLA.
Calvert County students excelled across various categories. Ada Marciniak secured first place in Business Law, while Sarah Hutchinson, Nathan Hitchman, and Sophia Hein topped the Community Service Project. Jessica Nguyen also claimed first in Introduction to FBLA.
Further achievers from Northern High School included Audrey Randolph in Accounting II, Gentry Bowie, Logan McDonald, and Maddie Thomas in the American Enterprise Project, and Jaxon Jacobs, Tim Wagner, and Holden Lee in Business Ethics.
Huntingtown High School featured impressive performances as well, with Ihnaya Mason advancing in Computer Problem Solving and Addison Sunderlin qualifying in Human Resource Management.
The young talent from Northern Middle School was also on display. Olivia Martin achieved first in Business Etiquette, Braxton Rayfield won in Career Exploration, and Emily Oberg excelled in Career Research. Additional top performances came from Clara Roberts and Bailey Swoope in Critical Thinking, Judy Boblane and Jackson Merchant in Exploring Business Ethics, Jordynn Dinkins in Exploring Business Issues, and Garrett Dillon in Exploring Economics. Eric Hitchman won first place in Exploring Public Speaking, while Shelby Howes and Liam Reighter excelled in Exploring Website Design.
FBLA is recognized as the nation’s largest student business organization, dedicated to equipping young individuals for success in the professional realm. With a membership of over 200,000 nationwide, FBLA focuses on developing essential skills such as communication, problem-solving, and entrepreneurship through academic competitions and leadership training.
