Carrefour Destreland Launches Solidarity Initiative for SNSM Guadeloupe
Les Abymes, Guadeloupe — Carrefour Destreland and Contact have launched their third annual solidarity initiative to support the Société nationale de sauvetage en mer (SNSM) Guadeloupe. This year, sales of reusable shopping bags will help finance vital sea rescue missions.
The program is not new. From 2023 to 2024, more than 75,000 shopping bags were sold, raising a total of 5,185 euros for the SNSM. Building on that success, Carrefour stores under the GBH group aim to surpass last year’s total and further bolster support for volunteer rescuers in 2025.
The initiative highlights a crucial public service cause. The SNSM, which operates without charge to save lives in emergency situations along Guadeloupe’s coast, is made up of about 50 local volunteers. Notably, it relies on donations and private partnerships for 72% of its funding.
This year’s campaign is not only a chance to promote the new shopping bag but also to emphasize the importance of citizen and corporate support for the longevity of SNSM’s actions. Recognized as a public utility and designated as a national priority in 2017, the SNSM relies on over 9,000 volunteers across France and its overseas territories.
Every purchase of a shopping bag directly contributes to ensuring the safety of nautical and coastal activities in Guadeloupe.
