CCTV Footage Released in Bluey Coin Theft Investigation
On Thursday, detectives from the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad released CCTV footage as they appealed for public assistance in their investigation into the theft of 63,000 limited edition “Bluey” coins. The theft, reported to police on 12 July 2024, involved a significant haul of these coins from a warehouse in Wetherill Park, Sydney.
The authorities from the Fairfield City Police Area Command were informed that the stolen items were $1 “Bluey” coins, produced by the Australian Mint and set for eventual release. In response, an extensive investigation was launched under the auspices of State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad, operating under the name Strike Force Bandit.
As part of the ongoing inquiry, the detectives have successfully recovered 189 of the stolen coins. Additionally, two men have been charged with alleged involvement in the crime, and are currently undergoing legal proceedings before the courts.
Investigators are now seeking to identify and speak with a man observed at a Revesby bank. This individual is described as having a Pacific Islander or Maori appearance, medium build, and sporting a black beard. Police also wish to locate the driver of a white SUV noticed at the bank following the alleged theft, believing they might hold information pivotal to the investigation.
A separate appeal has been made for information concerning the driver of a dark-colored Ford Territory, reportedly seen traversing the vicinity of the Wetherill Park warehouse during the time of the incident.
Authorities have urged anyone possessing information about either the individuals or vehicles in question to contact the police directly or reach out anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000. All tips reported to Crime Stoppers are treated with strict confidentiality, and officials have reminded the public that information should not be shared via NSW Police social media platforms.
