Chelsea Nottingham Forest Football Match Preview

Nottingham, England — Chelsea returns to Premier League action on Saturday, traveling to the City Ground to face a struggling Nottingham Forest side. The Blues hope to build on their recent success after beating Benfica and Liverpool, but they face challenges with a number of significant injuries.

Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca will have to navigate these injury issues ahead of the early kick-off. The squad did, however, receive a boost with the declaration of Reece James‘s fitness. James missed the international break as a precaution but is ready to rejoin the lineup.

Goalkeeper Robert Sánchez endured a tough September, including a red card against Manchester United and three goals conceded to Brighton. However, he has rebounded well in recent matches.

In the defense, Malo Gusto is expected to maintain his position, while Trevoh Chalobah returns from suspension. Wesley Fofana, who has been recovering from a concussion, is also set to play, marking a timely return given the defensive woes Chelsea has faced with other players injured.

Marc Cucurella impressed in the last match against Liverpool, providing an assist for the stoppage-time winner, and should be well-rested after not playing in Spain’s latest international match.

Midfield remains a concern for Maresca with Moisés Caicedo and Enzo Fernández both sidelined. Roméo Lavia will be crucial in midfield, as he is one of the few available players to operate there.

Younger players are stepping up for Chelsea as well. Estêvão, who scored against Liverpool and South Korea, is expected to start. Facundo Buonanotte could find himself in the attacking midfield role while Alejandro Garnacho‘s energy in the previous match has secured his place in the squad.

Up front, João Pedro is likely to lead the attack, especially with Liam Delap‘s ongoing injury issues. Chelsea needs to capitalize on their recent form and secure a win against Nottingham Forest, who have yet to win under coach Ange Postecoglou.

Another loss for Forest this weekend could put Postecoglou’s future at risk after a rocky start. Kick-off will be at lunchtime on Saturday with fans able to watch on various platforms across the globe.
