Christian Bishop Stabbed at Altar During Mass in Wakeley, Sydney

A prominent Christian leader, Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel, was allegedly stabbed at the altar during a mass at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley, a suburb in southwestern Sydney, New South Wales. The incident occurred just after 7pm when a man approached the bishop at the altar and launched a vicious attack, stabbing toward his head multiple times.

A live stream of the mass captured the shocking moment as the congregation rushed forward to aid Bishop Emmanuel before the feed was abruptly cut off. Bishop Emmanuel, who gained a significant online following during the Covid pandemic, was conducting the service when the attack took place.

Officers from Fairfield police area command swiftly responded to the scene at the church located on Welcome Street in Wakeley following reports of multiple stabbings. The police managed to apprehend the assailant, who is currently assisting them with their investigations into the incident.

The individuals who sustained injuries during the attack were reported to have non-life threatening wounds and were promptly attended to by NSW Ambulance paramedics. Emergency services arrived at the church around 7:15pm and provided medical assistance to the victims before transporting them to the nearby Liverpool Hospital for further treatment.

The injured individuals included a man in his 50s who suffered multiple cuts, a man in his 30s treated for lacerations, a man in his 20s receiving treatment for a hand injury, and a man in his 60s being attended to for a laceration on his arm at the scene. NSW Police have advised the public to steer clear of the area as investigations continue.
