Congressional Baseball Game Set for June 11 in D.C.

Washington, D.C. – The annual Congressional Baseball Game is approaching, with a scheduled date of June 11 this year. This spirited event features Republican and Democratic lawmakers competing for charity at Nationals Park, showcasing camaraderie amidst political rivalries.
Senator Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., expressed his enthusiasm for the game ahead of the matchup. As a longtime St. Louis Cardinals fan and a former college baseball player, Schmitt eagerly anticipates the occasion. ‘I feel good,’ Schmitt told Fox News Digital. ‘We’ve got a good team. Our coach, Roger Williams, gets us out there in the mornings pretty early for practices.’
This game has a rich history, dating back to 1909 when Democrats triumphed over Republicans 26-16. The Republicans currently lead the series and are on a four-game winning streak, having defeated Democrats 31-11 last year. ‘The most important thing is winning the game,’ Schmitt added, stressing the competitive spirit despite the charitable purpose.
Fundraising is a key aspect of the event, with both parties channeling support to Congressional Sports for Charity, which helps vulnerable children and families in the D.C. area. The organization has garnered $2.8 million so far this year, benefiting various local charities including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington.
Schmitt is not only looking forward to the competition but also the social aspect of the game. ‘My family comes in town, and our whole office is there. It’s a blast,’ he said. Previous presidents have graced the event, with notable appearances by Woodrow Wilson, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden. Schmitt expressed hope that current President Biden may attend as well.
As the teams finalize their rosters, Schmitt is joined by fellow senators Ruben Gallego, Alex Padilla, and Joni Ernst in the competition. The anticipation builds as the event promotes fun, friendly rivalry, and community support.
