Coolgardie Iga Powerball Winner Celebration

A family-owned grocery store in the Goldfields region of Western Australia has sold a winning lottery ticket, resulting in a mystery winner walking away with more than $60,000. The winning ticket, which belonged to the second-division Powerball draw, was sold at Boothey Morans IGA Local Grocer in Coolgardie.

James Boothey, who co-owns the store with his wife and parents, expressed excitement about the sale of their first significant prize since taking over the shop five and a half years ago. “It’s an exciting time to have a shop with a Lotto… it’s a pretty good feeling to sell a division two winner, and hopefully, our luck continues, and we can sell a division one soon,” said Boothey.

The identity of the winner remains unknown, as the store caters to a diverse clientele, including locals, tourists, and truck drivers. A Lotterywest spokesperson informed the Kalgoorlie Miner that the ticket was one of three in Western Australia that matched the winning numbers, each earning $60,249.

The Lotterywest spokesperson added, “So far this year, 27 WA players have won division two Powerball prizes, sharing in more than $3.6 million.” The spokesperson also noted that the profits from Lotterywest tickets support projects throughout WA, such as a grant to the Millennium Kids for the Kids on Country Project in Coolgardie.

Meanwhile, in nearby Boulder, the local newsagency and lotto shop owned by Michael Saville has been described as “the luckiest shop in Western Australia,” after producing six division-one winners within 18 months.
