Costco Recalls Kirkland Signature Eggs in Five States Due to Salmonella Concerns
A significant recall of eggs sold under Costco‘s Kirkland Signature brand has been announced due to potential salmonella contamination. The recall, initiated by Handsome Brook Farms, affects 24-count cartons of organic pasture-raised eggs distributed through 25 Costco stores in five states: Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
The recalled eggs are identified by a Julian code of 327 and a Use By Date of January 5, 2025, both of which are printed on the side of the egg cartons. This recall involves approximately 10,800 egg units sold at the affected Costco locations.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) made the announcement on Wednesday, highlighting the need for consumers to check their egg purchases for the specified Julian code and Use By Date to ensure their safety. Consumers who have purchased these eggs are advised to return them to the store or discard them to avoid the risk of salmonella infection.
This recall underscores the importance of food safety and the vigilance required by both manufacturers and consumers to prevent foodborne illnesses. Costco is taking steps to notify customers and ensure the affected products are removed from their stores.
