Costco Recalls Kirkland Signature Eggs in Five States Due to Salmonella Risk
Handsome Brooks Farms has initiated a recall of its 24-count Kirkland Signature organic pasture-raised eggs sold at Costco stores due to potential salmonella contamination. The recall, announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday, affects eggs distributed through 25 Costco stores in five states: Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
The recalled eggs are identified by the Julian code 327 and a Use By Date of January 5, 2025, both of which are printed on the side of the 24-count egg cartons. Consumers who have purchased these eggs are advised to check the packaging for these specific codes to determine if their eggs are part of the recall.
Salmonella contamination can pose serious health risks, particularly to vulnerable populations such as the elderly, young children, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of salmonella infection include fever, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and vomiting.
Customers who have purchased the affected eggs are encouraged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or to discard them immediately to avoid any potential health risks.
