CPI Member Questions PM Modi’s Apology for Delay in Ram Temple, Seeks Apology for Babri Masjid Demolition
CPI‘s Rajya Sabha member, Binoy Viswam, has raised questions regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s apology for the delay in constructing the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Viswam, who is also the Kerala state secretary of the CPI, challenged Modi to apologize for the demolition of the historic Babri Masjid.
In a social media post following the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple, Viswam taunted the Prime Minister over his emotional speech. He questioned whether Modi, who stressed Ram’s virtues of tolerance and equality, would apologize to the millions of faithful followers for the destruction of the Babri Masjid.
“Will the Prime Minister, who apologized to Lord Rama for the delay in constructing the temple, apologize to the women of Manipur? Will Modi, who said Ram was about tolerance and equality, apologize to the faithful for the demolition of Babri Masjid?” Viswam posted.
In his Ayodhya address, Modi expressed regret, saying, “Today, I also apologize to Lord Shri Ram. There must be something lacking in our effort, sacrifice, and penance that we could not accomplish this work for so many centuries. Today, the work has been completed, and I believe that Lord Shri Ram will definitely forgive us.”
It was activists from the Vishva Hindu Parishad and other Hindu organizations, who were part of a Rath Yatra led by veteran BJP leader L K Advani, who demolished the Babri Masjid. The 16th-century mosque in Ayodhya was torn down amidst controversy.
L K Advani, along with several other BJP leaders such as Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti, faced accusations of making provocative speeches prior to the demolition. However, in 2020, a special court acquitted the trio along with 29 other accused.
