Cyberpunk 2077 Surprises Fans with Unexpected 2.2 Update
Cyberpunk 2077, the open-world RPG developed by CD Projekt Red, is set to receive a surprise update, labeled as version 2.2, marking a significant addition to the game despite previous indications that major updates had ceased. This announcement comes just in time for the game’s fourth anniversary, which coincides with the reveal of the new content on December 10, 2024.
The details of Update 2.2 will be unveiled during a livestream, known as REDstream, scheduled for December 10 at 5 PM CET (11 AM ET, 8 AM PDT). This event will be broadcast on both Twitch and YouTube, providing fans with a deep dive into the new features and content included in the update.
While the exact contents of Update 2.2 are yet to be disclosed, CD Projekt Red has clarified that it will not include PS5 Pro support or a New Game Plus (NG+) mode, which were among the popular requests from the community. Instead, the developers have hinted at “some other cool stuff in the oven” that will be revealed during the livestream.
This update is particularly surprising given that most of CD Projekt Red’s development resources have been shifted to other projects, including the next game in the Witcher series (Project Polaris), the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel (Project Orion), and a new IP (Hadar). Despite this, the studio has shown a commitment to continuing support for Cyberpunk 2077, which has seen significant improvements since its initial release in 2020.
The game, which is set in the dystopian megalopolis of Night City, has undergone substantial changes and additions since its launch, including the major Update 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion. These updates have addressed many of the game’s initial issues and have helped to align the game more closely with its original promise.
