Empowering Events For Women's History Month Celebrations At University

Throughout Women’s History Month, the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at SUNY Broome Community College is hosting a series of empowering events to celebrate and honor the achievements of women. From informative mixers to insightful discussions, the university is buzzing with activities that highlight the contributions of women across various sectors.

At the Multicultural Resource Center on LS-G500, women of color are invited to a special gathering on March 13. This event offers a safe space for sharing experiences and empowerment exercises, accompanied by snacks and enlightening discussions.

The Bartle Library Breezeway will come alive on March 18 as the Q Center sets up a table to discuss trailblazers in the LGBTQ+ community. Attendees can engage in conversations about notable Queer women and increase their knowledge on LGBTQ+ history and achievements.

On March 22, the SUNY Broome Culinary & Event Center will host a spring social mixer in partnership with SUNY Broome Community College. The event is open to all faculty and staff, featuring food, drinks, prizes, and live music from the Rhythm & Blues and Jazz band, Top Shelf.

March 27 marks the Empowerment Brunch at the University Downtown Center on Washington Street. Participants can engage in networking sessions and hear from keynote speaker Toni Forge Esq. on entrepreneurship and women in the cannabis industry. The brunch, sponsored by Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, promises an enlightening experience for all.

There’s more in store on the same day at the SUNY Broome Culinary & Event Center, where a fireside chat will take place with Toni Forge Esq. Attendants can enjoy snacks and beverages while engaging in an informal conversation with the speaker on entrepreneurship and empowerment.

A special event on March 28 at the Multicultural Resource Center will feature a screening of Marvel‘s animated series, What if…? Episode six introduces the first Native American superhero, Kahhori, and attendees can join a discussion with Marvel writer Cecelia King about Indigenous representation in media.

For those interested in podcasts, the MRC offers a monthly show, with this month’s episode highlighting Women’s History Month featuring a special guest. The podcast is a celebration of heritage months and affinity celebrations, adding a unique touch to the university’s programming.
