Manchester United Women’s Ella Toone Earns 50th International Cap for England in Victory Against France
Manchester United Women‘s no.7, Ella Toone, reached a significant milestone by earning her 50th international cap for England during a thrilling victory against France. The match, which took place at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in Saint-Etienne, showcased Toone’s talent on the field.
The Lionesses, led by head coach Sarina Wiegman, secured a 2-1 win over France with goals from Georgia Stanway and Alessia Russo in the first half. Kadidiatou Diani managed to score a penalty for the home side in the 72nd minute, but England held on to claim the victory.
Toone, a key player for Manchester United Women, was named in the starting line-up and made her presence felt in the attacking lineup before being substituted for Fran Kirby in the 71st minute. Her achievement of 50 caps puts her in elite company alongside her United team-mate Mary Earps, who reached the same milestone in the previous match against France.
Expressing her gratitude on social media, Toone stated, «What an honor. 50 caps for my country. Thank you to those who have been part of this journey with me!» Her consistent performances have solidified her spot in the England squad, a testament to her success under the guidance of manager Marc Skinner at Manchester United.
In addition to Toone’s milestone, other Manchester United Women players, including Millie Turner, Maya Le Tissier, and Grace Clinton, were present as unused substitutes for England. Despite Earps missing the game due to a hip injury, the team celebrated Toone’s achievement and looks forward to her continued contributions on the international stage.
