FDA Expands Cinnamon Recall Due to Elevated Lead Levels

SAN FRANCISCO — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has expanded its health alert regarding elevated lead levels in ground cinnamon products. On October 10, 2025, the FDA announced that HAETAE-brand and Roshni-brand ground cinnamon have been added to the list of products potentially hazardous to consumers.
This alert follows previous inclusions, starting with Durra and Wise Wife brands on October 8. Since summer 2024, the FDA has issued warnings for a total of 16 ground cinnamon products. An additional product, Jiva Organic ground cinnamon, was noted in September as containing similar unsafe levels of lead.
The FDA cautioned that exposure to these products may not be safe, stating, “The agency has recommended that the firms voluntarily recall these products, with the exception of HAETAE-brand cinnamon,” due to their inability to contact Haitai Inc. USA regarding the findings.
Consumers who possess any of the affected products are urged to dispose of them and avoid purchasing ground cinnamon until further notice. According to the FDA, low-level lead exposure may not cause immediate symptoms, but long-term exposure can lead to serious health issues.
Lead exposure, particularly from foods, can affect nearly every system in the body. In children, it may cause permanent damage to the central nervous system and result in learning disabilities. Adults may experience kidney issues and hypertension due to long-term lead exposure.
The FDA has stated that they will continue to analyze additional cinnamon samples to ensure product safety and will provide updates if new findings warrant additional recalls.
Consumers are encouraged to refer to the FDA’s website for detailed information on the implicated products. The agency advises anyone who purchased Wise Wife ground cinnamon to return it to the store for a full refund. For assistance, consumers can contact SLR Food Distribution at 516-437-3782.
