Pearl Milling Company Pancake Mix Recall

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has classified a recall of Pearl Milling Company Original Pancake & Waffle Mix as a Class I danger, the highest classification for recalls, due to undeclared milk that may pose serious health risks. The recall, initiated by The Quaker Oats Company on January 14, affects 10,000 two-pound cartons of the product.

Consumers are urged to check for the recalled pancake mix, which is identified by UPC code 30000 65040 and code date BBD SEP 13 25 P. It was distributed in several states including Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, Utah, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, and Wisconsin.

The FDA defines a Class I recall as a situation in which “there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.” The agency’s reports indicate that 2% to 3% of children under three years old are allergic to milk, with serious conditions like anaphylaxis possible if they consume the allergen.

A spokesperson for Quaker Oats stated, “Quaker Oats issued this recall and alerted the public on January 14, 2025, in full cooperation with the FDA, due to undeclared milk in a limited number of Pearl Milling Company Original Pancake & Waffle Mix boxes.” The spokesperson emphasized that consumer health is the company’s top priority.

As of the latest update, no adverse health reactions have been reported associated with the affected products, although the FDA continues to monitor the situation. Consumers in possession of the recalled products are advised to discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

This recall is part of a broader trend, as food safety remains a critical concern. Additionally, the FDA recently issued recalls for other products over different contamination fears, highlighting ongoing vigilance needed in food safety practices.
