Frank Turek Speaks Out After Murder of Charlie Kirk
Orem, Utah — Dr. Frank Turek, a Christian apologist, spoke out on Tuesday about the tragic murder of his friend and mentee, Charlie Kirk. Kirk, a conservative activist, was shot and killed on September 10 while addressing a crowd at Utah Valley University.
Turek revealed during a video message that he was deeply disturbed by rumors suggesting he was involved in a conspiracy to kill Kirk. ‘It’s crazy that people actually believe this stuff,’ Turek said. ‘It’s ridiculous.’ He also expressed gratitude to those who are working to dispel the false narratives circulating online.
Kirk’s death shocked many, including Turek, who described their bond as one filled with deep respect. ‘Frank loved Charlie and would have done anything to protect him,’ said a mutual friend. ‘Without hesitation, Frank would have put himself between that bullet and Charlie.’
In a Facebook post, Turek condemned the ‘viral accusations’ against him as ‘categorically false.’ The post emphasized Turek’s role as Kirk’s close friend and mentor, stating, ‘Like everyone, we want Charlie’s assassin brought swiftly to justice, but reckless and false accusations only distract from the truth.’
During his video, Turek recounted the harrowing moments following the shooting. He described hearing a distinct ‘pop’ and seeing Kirk fall back. ‘I started heading in his direction; I saw Kirk’s security team on the job,’ Turek explained. ‘Only then did I think of taking cover myself.’
Turek rushed to get Kirk into an SUV and head to the hospital. ‘We prayed all the way to the hospital,’ Turek said. ‘At one point, we attempted CPR, but I sensed it was too late.’ He recalled seeing Kirk’s eyes fix on something beyond him, sharing, ‘He was with Jesus already.’
Doctors at the hospital managed to briefly revive Kirk’s pulse, but he succumbed to his injuries later that night. Turek emphasized that Kirk ‘suffered no pain’ and expressed hope that this detail would bring some comfort to those grieving.
As a respected figure in Christian circles, Turek found Tuesday’s video to be the most difficult show he has ever done. He shared, ‘The pain is proportional to the value of the loss and to the greatness of the man.’
