Free Flu Vaccination Clinics Open This Fall Across Multiple Campuses

Los Angeles, CA — Several universities and health centers are offering free flu vaccinations this fall, starting in early October. These clinics aim to protect students, faculty, and nearby community members from influenza.
The University of Toledo is providing free flu shots to faculty, staff, and students from noon to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, starting October 1 and running through November 26. Clinics will be held at the University Health Center and the outpatient pharmacy in the University of Toledo Medical Center Medical Pavilion.
Additionally, Duke University has announced it will offer no-cost flu vaccines through the Employee Occupational Health & Wellness (EOHW) department beginning October 9. Vaccines will be available at various locations, including Duke South and Duke Raleigh Hospital. Duke staff who receive their flu shot through EOHW must complete a consent form prior to vaccination.
These vaccination efforts follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidance, which emphasizes the importance of flu shots during the flu season. This recommendation holds even more weight following North Carolina’s severe flu season last year, which resulted in 530 related deaths.
County-wide, San Luis Obispo Health is also hosting free pop-up vaccination clinics starting October 1, aiming to reduce illness and hospital admissions. No appointment is necessary, and the shots are available to everyone regardless of insurance status.
Dr. Penny Borenstein, the County Health Officer stated, “Getting your annual flu vaccine helps protect your health and the community during the fall and winter months.” She reiterated the need for community members to participate in vaccination efforts.
As flu season approaches, medical experts continue to advocate for vaccinations to mitigate outbreaks. Institutions providing vaccines recommend early vaccination as the best strategy against influenza.
