Gregg Wallace Defends Himself Against Allegations of Inappropriate Behavior on MasterChef
Former BBC MasterChef presenter Gregg Wallace has responded to allegations of inappropriate behavior through a series of social media videos. The allegations, which span a 17-year period, involve complaints from 13 individuals regarding his conduct on the show.
Wallace defended his actions, stating that he has worked with over 4,000 contestants from diverse backgrounds during his 20 years on the show. He noted that the complaints seem to come from a “handful of middle class women of a certain age”.
In his videos, Wallace also highlighted the frequency of sexual remarks and innuendos made by female contestants on the show, suggesting that such interactions were not one-sided. He shared screenshots of supportive messages from past contestants on his Instagram page.
The allegations against Wallace include claims of inappropriate sexual comments, making female production members feel uncomfortable, and other forms of misconduct. His lawyers have denied these allegations, stating that Wallace did not engage in any behavior of a sexually harassing nature.
The production company behind MasterChef, Banijay UK, has announced that Wallace will step away from the show while these historical allegations are externally reviewed. The BBC has also stated that they have robust processes in place to deal with such issues swiftly and appropriately.
Additionally, a past comment from comedian Sean Lock has resurfaced, where he made a damning assessment of Gregg Wallace, although the specifics of Lock’s comment are not detailed in the recent context).
