CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Harvard University has issued an emergency alert advising students and staff to shelter in place after a reported shooting in the nearby area on Friday.

The alert came shortly after 11 AM, as Cambridge Police reported that an unidentified male on a bicycle shot at another person on Sherman Street. The suspect was last seen heading toward Garden Street.

The university’s emergency message urged people in the area to avoid the vicinity and warned against gathering in the Quad area. “Please shelter in place now,” the alert stated.

Sherman Street is just south of Harvard’s campus, and Garden Street leads down toward Massachusetts Avenue. Later information indicated that the incident occurred near the Radcliffe Quad, a central area of the university.

Authorities from both Cambridge and Harvard are currently searching for the suspect. Local police have stated that they are utilizing all available resources to locate the individual.
