Haryana Assembly Elections: BJP Secures Dominant Win in Faridabad
Faridabad, a crucial district within the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi, witnessed a significant political contest in the recently concluded Haryana Assembly elections. Situated strategically along National Highway 44, Faridabad comprises six vital constituencies, including Prithla, Faridabad NT, Badkhal, Ballabgarh, Faridabad, and Tigaon.
On October 8, 2024, results from these constituencies revealed a strong performance by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as candidates from the party emerged victorious in several key areas. Notably, Vipul Goel of the BJP registered a win from the Faridabad Assembly constituency, defeating his Indian National Congress (INC) rival, Lakhan Kumar Singla, by a decisive margin of 48,388 votes. This victory marks an important retention for the BJP, following the previous win by Narender Gupta in 2019.
Additionally, Dhanesh Adlakha from the BJP won the Badkhal constituency by 6,181 votes against Vijay Pratap Singh of the Congress. Similarly, the Faridabad NIT seat was secured by BJP’s Satish Kumar Phagna, who triumphed over Neeraj Sharma of Congress with a 33,217-vote lead.
While the BJP demonstrated electoral strength, the Congress made headway in the Prithla constituency, where Raghubir Tewatia secured a victory over BJP’s Tek Chand Sharma by 20,541 votes. However, the BJP’s Rajesh Nagar won the Tigaon constituency by an impressive 37,401 votes, ensuring a substantial party presence in the district.
Despite the BJP’s stronghold in urban centers like Faridabad, overall voter turnout in the region was reported to be relatively low, consistent with trends observed in various urban parts of Haryana. According to the Election Commission of India, urban areas including Gurugram recorded only 51.81 percent voter turnout. Conversely, the Ellenabad assembly constituency in Sirsa district noted over 80 percent participation.
The elections featured intense competition, primarily between the BJP and Congress, amidst the presence of other political entities such as the INLD-BSP, JJP-Azad Samaj Party alliance, and the Aam Aadmi Party. In a landscape marked by political rivalries and strategic alignments, the BJP has successfully maintained its influence over Faridabad’s pivotal constituencies.
