Heart of the Tyne Charity’s Valentine’s Day Fundraiser for British Heart Foundation
A charity based in the North East is utilizing Valentine’s Day to promote heart health awareness and raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.
The Heart of the Tyne organization is urging individuals and businesses to participate in a 60,000-step challenge over one week to support the fight against heart disease.
Starting on March 10, teams from various companies or groups can join the challenge, aiming to raise a minimum of £60 per participant.
As part of the initiative, David Brind and Stuart Jackson from the Heart of the Tyne group will undertake a 100-mile walking challenge along the Northumberland coast, spanning from Tweed to Tyne. Their journey kicks off on March 13 and includes passing through locales such as Seahouses, Amble, and Blyth before concluding at Tynemouth on March 16.
Stuart emphasized the benefits of walking for heart health and mental well-being, highlighting the importance of taking small steps to improve overall health.
Andrew Robson from the Inn Collection expressed pride in supporting the cause, noting that their inns often serve as a convenient stopover for hikers and it will be a pleasure to assist David and Stuart during their coastal walk.
The walk will culminate with a celebratory finish at the Tynemouth Castle Inn on Saturday afternoon, where players from the Newcastle Falcons and members of the Newcastle Rugby Foundation will join in to show their support.
Melanie Magee, head of the Newcastle Rugby Foundation, commended the Heart of the Tyne team’s efforts and mentioned the players’ eagerness to contribute back to the community through their participation in the event.
Over the past three years, the Heart of the Tyne group has raised over £100,000 for the British Heart Foundation. Those interested in joining the 60,000-step challenge can contact Emily Petitjean for details, while groups can choose to participate in the last two days of the walk by reaching out to the same contact.
