Al Horford Signs Multiyear Deal with Golden State Warriors

San Francisco, California
Free agent center Al Horford has agreed to a multi-year deal with the Golden State Warriors, his agent Jason Glushon confirmed on Sunday. After spending seven of the past nine seasons with the Boston Celtics, Horford is set to enter his 19th NBA season in a new role as the Warriors’ starting center.
Horford verbally committed to the Warriors following a successful 2023-24 season where he helped the Celtics win the NBA championship. Reports indicate that both sides are finalizing financial terms, with a formal signing expected in the coming days.
At 39 years old, Horford averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists last season, showing his ability to contribute effectively off the bench. He started 42 of the 60 games he played and is known for his three-point shooting skills, making over 100 3-pointers in each of the past three seasons.
His statistics reflect an effective player, including a 46% rating in isolation defense, ranking him seventh in the NBA. Horford is recognized for being a rare combination of 900 made three-pointers and 1,300 blocks in his career, placing him among elite company.
Horford shared a heartfelt message on social media, thanking Celtics fans and the organization for their support over the years. He reflected on memorable moments, saying, “Raising a banner in this city will be a moment I will always cherish.”
The Warriors are excited about Horford’s addition, believing he will complement their star players, including Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. This move follows a period of significant changes in the Celtics’ frontcourt, including the departure of Kristaps Porzingis.
As Horford transitions to Golden State, he aims to bring his championship experience to help the Warriors in their quest for another title.
