IIT Madras Tops NIRF Rankings Again
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) has once again taken the top spot in engineering, marking its ninth consecutive year at number one in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024.
On August 12, 2024, the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced these rankings, revealing that a total of 16 categories were assessed this year, which includes new categories for Open universities, skill universities, and State public universities.
IIT Madras has been on a roll, having been recognized as the best education institution in the country six times since 2019. Meanwhile, IIM Ahmedabad continues to be the top management institute for the fifth year in a row.
Dharmendra Pradhan mentioned that starting next year, the Ministry may include “sustainability” as a new criterion for ranking. The NIRF was created by the Ministry of Education in India to provide an assessment of higher educational institutions across the country.
In another highlight from the rankings, Delhi University (DU) has made a significant leap, securing the 6th position among universities in India, finally making its way into the top 10.
DU’s overall ranking saw an improvement as it climbed to 15th place, up from last year’s 22nd position. The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Yogesh Singh, credited this achievement to teamwork among faculty and staff.
Six colleges from Delhi University were listed in the top 10 rankings this year. Hindu College has emerged as the leading college nationally, closely followed by Miranda House and St. Stephen’s College in second and third places, respectively.
Noteworthy mentions include Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College at fifth, while Kirori Mal College and Lady Shri Ram College for Women ranked ninth and tenth.
