Insignia Air Fryers Recalled Over Fire Hazard: Health Canada and Best Buy Issue Safety Alert
Health Canada and Best Buy Canada have issued a safety alert for several models of Insignia-brand air fryers due to a potential fire and burn hazard. The recall includes digital air fryers, analog air fryers, and digital air fryer ovens with varying cooking capacities, sold between September 2021 and November 2023.
The affected units, bearing the brand name “Insignia,” have exhibited issues such as overheating, melting or breakages of handles, and in some cases, the glass doors of the air fryer ovens breaking. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is also part of this joint effort to ensure consumer safety.
Health Canada reports that there have been six incidents in Canada where the handles of the air fryers melted or broke, and one case of the glass shattering on an air fryer oven. Fortunately, there have been no injuries reported as a result of these incidents.
In the United States, Insignia has received reports of 24 incidents involving overheating, melting, or glass shattering, including six cases of air fryers catching fire. However, there have been no injuries or property damage reported in the U.S. from these incidents.
Customers in Canada who have purchased one of the affected products are advised to immediately stop using them and unplug the units. They can visit the official recall website to register their product, provide necessary information, and receive further instructions on how to proceed.
Best Buy Canada is offering customers a full refund in the form of a gift card for the purchase price of the affected air fryers, provided they have a receipt. Customers without a receipt can still receive a $75 gift card upon registration of their recalled product.
Those who have experienced any health or safety issues related to using the Insignia air fryers are urged to fill out a form on the recall website to report their incidents. Health Canada and Best Buy Canada are working diligently to ensure the safety of consumers and prevent any further potential hazards.
