General Motors Cadillac Gmc Vehicle Recall

DETROIT, Mich. — General Motors is recalling 597,630 vehicles from its Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC lines due to serious engine defects that could lead to engine failure. The recall, reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on April 24, affects models equipped with the 6.2L V8 gas engine.

The manufacturer identified issues with connecting rod and crankshaft components that may have manufacturing defects. These flaws can significantly increase the risk of internal engine damage or complete failure while driving, raising the likelihood of accidents. Notable signs of impending engine failure include strange noises like knocking or grinding, an illuminated check engine light, and reduced power or abnormal shifting.

As part of the recall process, GM will send notification letters to vehicle owners by June 9, 2025. Affected owners can have their vehicles inspected and repaired free of charge at any authorized Cadillac, Chevrolet, or GMC dealership. The repair process includes inspecting the engine and replacing any faulty parts. Vehicles that pass inspection will also receive upgrades, including higher viscosity oil, a new oil fill cap, an oil filter replacement, and an updated owner’s manual.

General Motors reported over 28,100 complaints related to engine failures in these vehicles from April 2021 to February 2025. During this time, there were 12 documented crashes, along with 12 injuries and 42 instances of fire, although most injuries were minor and unrelated to crashes. GM emphasizes that customer safety is its highest priority and is urging affected owners to act promptly.

To determine if their vehicle is impacted by the recall, owners can visit the NHTSA’s official recall database by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). For more information, Cadillac owners can contact customer service at 1-800-333-4223, Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC at 1-800-462-8782, referencing recall number N252494000.
