Jacob Elordi Spends 10 Hours in Makeup for ‘Frankenstein’ Role

Los Angeles, CA — Jacob Elordi has undergone a remarkable transformation for his role as the Creature in Guillermo del Toro‘s upcoming adaptation of “Frankenstein.” At the film’s premiere on October 6, Del Toro revealed that Elordi spent around 10 hours each day in makeup and prosthetics.
“He took around 10 hours every day, and about 42 pieces of makeup, prosthetics,” Del Toro told E! News. He praised Elordi’s dedication, stating, “He did it all with grace and patience and love.” Del Toro likened Elordi’s preparation to a priest donning ceremonial robes, explaining how important it was to embrace the character fully.
Elordi’s transformation didn’t stop at makeup. He also trained in Japanese butoh dance and studied the Book of Job from the Bible to embody the character’s complexity. His commitment has not gone unnoticed by co-star Oscar Isaac, who plays Dr. Victor Frankenstein. Isaac complimented Elordi, stating, “He’s so put together. He was so effortless. He never complained.”
Elordi, who succeeded Andrew Garfield for the role, shares the screen with Mia Goth, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz. Del Toro noted their strong connection, describing their collaboration as needing “very few words” to communicate.
Initially unsure about studying previous portrayals of Frankenstein’s monster, Elordi ultimately chose to binge-watch them. “At first I thought, ‘I’ll stay away from this. I want to do my own thing,'” he said. However, after consulting Del Toro, he was encouraged to explore those performances further.
“He says, ‘My friend, it’s a movie, it can’t hurt you,’” Elordi recalled. This newfound motivation helped him reshape his approach to the character.
“Frankenstein” will hit select theaters on October 17 before becoming available on Netflix on November 7.
