St. Johns County Schools to Operate Normally Amid Winter Weather Advisory
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — St. Johns County Schools will maintain normal operations on Wednesday despite a winter weather advisory warning of freezing temperatures, rain, and potential icy roads, Superintendent Tim Forson announced Tuesday.
In a message to parents and families, Forson stated that any changes to school activities would be communicated directly by individual schools. The district is collaborating with the St. Johns County Emergency Operations Center and staff to monitor weather conditions closely.
The winter weather advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, is expected to take effect late Tuesday night and extend into Wednesday morning. The advisory warns of freezing temperatures and the possibility of ice accumulation on roads, which could impact travel conditions.
“We will continue to work with the SJC Emergency Operations Center and staff to monitor the weather and will relay any changes to our operations through this mass-notification system,” Forson said in his statement. He urged families to stay safe and warm during the advisory period.
St. Johns County Schools, located in northeastern Florida, serves over 50,000 students across 40 schools. The district has a history of proactive communication during severe weather events, ensuring parents and staff are informed of any operational changes.
Residents are advised to check local weather updates and school communications for the latest information. The district’s mass-notification system will provide real-time updates if conditions worsen or if adjustments to school operations are necessary.
