Julia Fox Jackie Kennedy Halloween Costume

NEW YORK, NY — Actress Julia Fox defended her Halloween costume inspired by Jackie Kennedy‘s iconic pink suit, stained with fake blood from the tragic day of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963. The controversy ignited after Fox wore the costume to a Halloween party on October 30, drawing intense backlash online.

In response, the 35-year-old actress took to social media on Halloween to clarify her intentions. “I’m dressed as Jackie Kennedy in the pink suit. Not as a costume, but as a statement,” she wrote. Fox referenced Jackie Kennedy’s choice to remain in her blood-stained outfit following her husband’s assassination, famously saying, ‘I want them to see what they’ve done.’

Fox described the imagery as a mix of “beauty and horror” and “poise and devastation”. She noted that Jackie’s refusal to change clothes, even after being encouraged to do so, was an act of stunning bravery. “It was performance, protest, and mourning all at once. A woman weaponizing image and grace to expose brutality. It’s about trauma, power, and how femininity itself is a form of resistance,” she added.

Though some reacted positively, others found the costume inappropriate. Digital creator Alison Barker criticized the outfit as “so inappropriate,” while another user stated it was “horribly tasteless and inappropriate.” JFK’s grandson, Jack Schlossberg, went further, calling the costume “disgusting, desperate, and dangerous,” suggesting it glorified political violence.

Historian Steve Gillon provided context about Jackie Kennedy’s decision to keep the suit, noting that it remained uncleaned and was sent to the National Archives around 1964. The dress, still stained, is preserved as a historical artifact.

As the debate continued online, Fox concluded her post with a tribute, saying, “Long live Jackie O ❤️”.
