Karmelo Anthony to Graduate After Agreement with Frisco ISD Amid Legal Issues

FRISCO, Texas — Karmelo Anthony, a 17-year-old senior at Frisco Centennial High School, will graduate and receive his high school diploma, according to the Next Generation Action Network (NGAN). This announcement comes after an agreement was reached between Anthony’s family and the Frisco Independent School District (ISD).
Although Anthony has met all academic requirements with a 3.7 GPA, he will not participate in any senior graduation activities. Under the agreement, he will graduate without attending the final month and a half of the school year.
“We are proud to share that Karmelo Anthony will graduate and receive his high school diploma, and that his academic achievements will not be disrupted,” said Minister Dominique Alexander, president of NGAN. “This is a moment of dignity for Karmelo and a reminder of the power of advocacy done right.”
NGAN has worked closely with Anthony’s legal team since a press conference earlier this month. They mentioned that discussions with Frisco ISD helped secure Anthony’s graduation.
Details of the agreement have not been made public. However, the organization confirmed that it ensures Anthony’s path to graduation while maintaining adherence to academic standards, despite the surrounding legal circumstances.
Anthony was charged with first-degree murder following an altercation during a track meet on April 2, where he allegedly stabbed another student. He was released from jail but remains under house arrest with GPS monitoring.
During this turbulent period, NGAN has also been providing support and security for the Anthony family, who have faced online threats and harassment. “The Anthony family has been subjected to an unimaginable amount of hate, racism, and threats to their safety,” Alexander said.
Frisco ISD has not commented publicly on the details of the case, citing privacy laws but emphasized their commitment to student safety and integrity in their educational environment.
