Katie Thurston’s Breast Cancer Treatment Paused Amid New Health Concerns

LOS ANGELES, CA — Former Bachelorette star Katie Thurston announced on March 24 that her breast cancer treatment has been paused after doctors discovered spots on her liver. The 34-year-old reality television personality shared her challenging news via Instagram, revealing that a liver biopsy is scheduled for this week.
In her post, Thurston expressed concerns about her health, stating, “My doctor seemed to be leaning more on the cancer in the liver vs optimistic it was nothing. This would put me at stage 4.” She reached out to fellow cancer patients for advice, saying, “I’d love to hear from my sisters who are stage 4 in terms of quality of life, motherhood, etc.”
Thurston has been candid about her health journey, previously announcing her diagnosis of stage-3 breast cancer on February 15. At that time, she detailed the emotional toll and medical steps she was taking, which included biopsies, fertility preservation, and meetings with her treatment team. “This is day one of sharing and is going to be a long one,” she reflected.
In her latest update on the Instagram broadcast channel “Boobie Broadcast,” Thurston revealed that doctors found “two liver lesions” likely indicating “metastatic disease.” She noted, “The next step is a biopsy of the liver spots to confirm for sure.”
Thurston also disclosed that she received a Zoladex injection, a hormone treatment that helps reduce estrogen levels to potentially shrink tumors. Reflecting on the emotional experience of the injection, she said, “Do I cry too much? Hyperventilating too much? Not brave enough?”
In addition to her treatment challenges, Thurston is also addressing fertility options before starting chemotherapy later this year. She recently shared a breakdown of her fertility treatment costs on Instagram, highlighting the significant financial investment required.
Amidst the serious health issues, Thurston recently celebrated a milestone in her personal life. On March 23, she and her fiancé, comedian Jeff Arcuri, were married in a private ceremony. They marked the occasion with a casual celebration featuring drinks in their backyard alongside their families.
In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Arcuri discussed how Thurston’s health battle has strengthened their relationship and influenced their decision to expedite their wedding plans. “You would think it would cause more tribulation or problems between you, but it’s bonded us more than anything else,” he said. Thurston echoing this sentiment, described their wedding as “so sweet,” emphasizing the emotional rollercoaster they have been through.
Katie Thurston’s journey has resonated with many, and her openness about her diagnosis and treatment continues to inspire. As she faces uncertain times ahead, she remains committed to sharing her story, hoping to support others who are navigating similar challenges.
