KDOT Announces Key Updates and Safety Reminders for Kansas Drivers
The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has released several important updates and safety reminders for drivers in Kansas. One of the key announcements involves the closure of the EB I-70 Lewis & Clark Viaduct for repairs. Drivers are advised to check for alternative routes and stay updated through the KanDrive website for current road and weather information.
KDOT also announced the approval of bids for state highway construction and maintenance projects, which took place on September 18, 2024, in Topeka. These projects are part of ongoing efforts to improve and maintain the state’s infrastructure.
In addition to infrastructure updates, KDOT has highlighted the importance of pedestrian safety. Between 2019 and 2023, a total of 179 pedestrians across Kansas were hit and killed by vehicles, emphasizing the need for drivers to stay focused and yield to pedestrians.
As winter approaches, KDOT, along with the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) and the Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA), is reminding motorists to prepare their vehicles for winter travel. This includes checking tire conditions, fluid levels, and having a basic winter travel kit handy in case of emergencies.
Furthermore, KDOT has begun a field survey on K-116 in Atchison County. This survey is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to assess and improve road conditions across the state.
KDOT is also seeking public comments on an amendment to the FFY 2025-2028 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) document, encouraging community involvement in transportation planning.
