Killeen Isd Winter Weather School Closure

KILLEEN, TexasKilleen Independent School District (KISD) officials are closely monitoring winter weather conditions expected to persist into next week, with potential impacts on school operations. On Friday afternoon, the district announced that leaders will assess weather conditions over the weekend to determine if closures or delays are necessary.

Central Texas residents can expect updates from the district on Sunday and throughout Monday. As of now, Killeen ISD plans to reopen schools as scheduled on Tuesday, Jan. 21, but officials emphasized that student and staff safety remains their top priority.

“Keeping the safety and well-being of our students and staff is most important when determining weather-related closures or delays,” a district spokesperson said. Killeen ISD has committed to notifying families and staff as early as possible through official channels, including phone calls, texts, emails, the district’s mobile app, social media, and local media outlets.

In addition to potential school closures, the KISD Board of Trustees meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed to 8 a.m. Wednesday. The meeting will take place in the conference room at the Administration Building, located at 200 N. W.S. Young Drive in Killeen.

Officials notified the public about 7:30 p.m. Monday that schools and district administration would remain closed all day Tuesday due to weather concerns. The district urged families to stay informed through its communication channels for further updates.
