Kwasu Management Reacts To Unrest In Malete Community

Following the recent incident in the Malete community, the management of Kwara State University (KWASU) has issued a response to the unrest that occurred among students in the area. The disturbance stemmed from a joint sting operation carried out by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) targeting cybercrime activities.

Peace has now been restored in Malete, a town situated in the Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State, after a bout of pandemonium erupted following the sting operation. KWASU students were prominently featured among the 50 suspects paraded in connection with cybercrimes by the EFCC.

Reacting to the incident, the Registrar of KWASU, Dr. Kikelomo Sallee, confirmed that the unrest did not result in any casualties despite the chaos that ensued. The management of the university expressed concerns over what it termed as ‘arbitrary’ actions by the EFCC and NDLEA in targeting students.

Management assured stakeholders that discussions would be held with the law enforcement agencies to address the handling of students during such operations. KWASU emphasized its stance against the rough treatment of its students and urged them to maintain peace and order as characteristic of the institution.

The statement from KWASU noted the commitment to providing a secure environment for students to learn and excel, ensuring timely graduation. Despite the recent upheaval, the ongoing Harmattan semester examinations will continue as planned to uphold academic schedules for the students.

All members of the KWASU community were encouraged to remain calm and go about their activities lawfully, aiming to uphold the positive reputation of the university amidst the recent events.
