Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency Urges Vigilance In Consuming Plantain Chips

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has issued an alert to consumers regarding the popular snack, fried plantains commonly known as ‘Plantain Chips’. The agency is advising the public to remain vigilant and cautious about potential unwholesome practices in the processing and frying of these snacks.

This advisory comes in response to a viral online image, allegedly showing a plantain chips seller adding Polythene, commonly referred to as ‘Rubber‘, into the hot vegetable oil used for frying plantains. LASCOPA has expressed deep concern about the potential health implications of such practices on unsuspecting consumers.

As a result of this incident, members of the public are strongly encouraged to play an active role in reporting any unfriendly or unlawful practices among sellers of consumable items. Promptly notifying appropriate government agencies, including LASCOPA, is of utmost importance to protect the health of consumers.

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency has urged members of the public to visit their office in Ikeja or their annex branches in Badagry, Bariga, Ikorodu, and Ikoyi-Obalende. Alternatively, they can contact LASCOPA via email or phone to report similar cases.
