Las Vegas Raiders Overcome Baltimore Ravens with Late Comeback
The Baltimore Ravens experienced a heartbreaking loss at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders, with a final score of 26-23, on Sunday, September 15, 2024. Despite holding a 10-point lead well into the fourth quarter, the Ravens succumbed to three consecutive scoring drives by the Raiders.
One of the most critical moments in the game came on a 3rd-and-goal play from the 17-yard line, where Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew II aimed for wide receiver Davante Adams in the end zone. Ravens’ Brandon Stephens intervened, but a pass interference call against him, which drew questions from observers, altered the momentum. This controversial penalty led to a tying touchdown for the Raiders.
Following a quick three-and-out by the Ravens, the Raiders delivered the decisive blow—a game-winning field goal secured with just 27 seconds remaining on the clock.
In the first half, the Ravens struggled to gain traction in their running game. However, Derrick Henry made a significant impact early in the second half, charging through the Raiders’ defense with a 29-yard run distinguished by his renowned stiff arm, which set up a scoring opportunity. This drive culminated in Baltimore’s first touchdown of the match.
Throughout the game, Baltimore’s offense was led admirably by Lamar Jackson, who threw for 247 yards. Zay Flowers emerged as a prominent receiving threat, amassing 91 yards and scoring an 8-yard touchdown reception. On the ground, Derrick Henry led the Ravens with 84 rushing yards.
In contrast, the Raiders’ Gardner Minshew II threw for 276 yards, with Davante Adams being his prime target, garnering 110 receiving yards. Although the Ravens maintained a higher total offensive yardage at 383 compared to the Raiders’ 260, costly penalties, totaling 11 for 109 yards, hindered their efforts.
Noteworthy defensive efforts included OLB Odafe Oweh from the Ravens, achieving 2.5 sacks, marking one of his finest performances to date. On the opposing side, the Raiders’ defensive end Maxx Crosby dominated the line of scrimmage, notably impacting the game with two sacks against RT Patrick Mekari.
The Ravens will look to regroup as they prepare for their next encounter against the Dallas Cowboys. The game is scheduled for next Sunday at 4:25 p.m., where they will aim to rebound against a Cowboys team that currently holds a 1-1 record this season.
