93.9 LITE FM Kicks Off 24th Year of Around-the-Clock Holiday Music in Chicago
Chicago radio station 93.9 LITE FM is gearing up to celebrate its 24th year as the city’s premier Christmas music station. Starting at 3 p.m. on November 1, the station will begin broadcasting around-the-clock holiday music, a tradition that has become a staple for many Chicagoans.
The kickoff event will feature a special message from Mariah Carey, followed by a two-and-a-half-hour commercial-free holiday music celebration. This marks the day after Halloween, a time when listeners have consistently expressed their readiness for Christmas tunes.
This year’s start date is a day earlier than in 2023, when the holiday music began on November 2. The station has a history of starting its holiday playlist on or around November 1, having done so in 2022 as well. In previous years, the start dates varied slightly, with November 3 in 2021 and November 6 in 2020.
Mick Lee, iHeartMedia Chicago’s 93.9 LITE FM program director and afternoon show host, emphasized the station’s commitment to spreading cheer and unity through music. “93.9 LITE FM listeners have spoken year after year—once Halloween ends, they are ready for Christmas music on 93.9 LITE FM,” Lee said. “We’re thrilled to celebrate our 24th year as Chicago’s Christmas station, spreading cheer, unity and warmth all season long).
The holiday music will continue through the end of the year, although an exact end date has not been announced. Listeners can look forward to a festive soundtrack that will fill their hearts and homes with the magic of Christmas).
