Lyon County Iowa Meeting

During a regular action meeting on Thursday morning, the Lyon County Commissioners addressed a series of purchases, security needs, and bids. Highlighting the agenda was the approval to appoint two Lyon County security employees to oversee the destruction of archived election records, a procedure necessitated by state law. Commissioner Tammy Vopat, the Lyon County Election Officer, had made the formal request for the appointments.

Further into the session, the Commissioners sanctioned the acquisition of a system named Prepared Assist Plus. This purchase, amounting to $7,360 annually, was recommended by Roxanne Van Gundy, Director of the Lyon County Emergency Communications Center. The payment for this system, described as providing non-emergent texting, security, and mapping technology, will be drawn from the county’s 911 funds.

Moreover, the Commissioners approved a bid from Moon Title and Escrow, LLC, which will conduct abstracting work related to the delinquent real estate tax sale. The Commissioners also consented to a cereal malt beverage special event license application submitted by Ignacio Velazquez for an event planned for January on Logan Avenue.

In other matters, the Commissioners held three executive sessions, two pertaining to legal issues and another pertaining to non-elected personnel. No decisions were made public following these sessions. The next meeting of the Lyon County Commissioners is scheduled for the following Thursday at 9 am, to be held at the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
